The Griz are 2-0 on the season largely in part because of their dominant defense. Leading the way for the defense once again was Dante Olson. As the Junior Linebacker is off to scorching hot start this season.
Today he was not only named Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight time but Olson was also named the Stats FCS National Defensive Player of the Week.
Olson posted 16 tackles on Saturday against Drake, with seven solo stops. He also had 3.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, one pass break up, and a pair of sacks.
Olson now has 29 tackles through the first two games of the season. Which is the best in the Big Sky and ranks third in all of FCS football.
Those numbers this year for Olson are getting so ridiculous...it's almost suspicious.
"Is his mother keeping stats? What the hell Tabes nobody gets 16 tackles? He had a good day he is obviously off to a good start to the season and we need him to be that guy" said Griz Head Coach Bobby Hauck.
"It's awesome the awards and stuff like that but I'm focused on how we are 2-0 and the defense is playing well but there are a lot of things to correct from the film and now we are moving into next week with a big match up versus Western Illinois," said Olson.
