Carroll College volleyball is a Frontier Conference powerhouse but the Saints will be fighting to return to the top without some key players on the court.
The team has some extra help coaching this season as 2017 Frontier All-Freshman selection Taelyr Krantz and teammate Casey Berry are both recovering from injuries and will be student assistants during rehab. All-Conference right-side hitter Holly Morehouse graduated and joins the staff as well. Saints head coach Maureen Boyle is proud of her new additions.
"They already have taken to it doing a great job, giving feedback, helping with film, helping us in coaching, and they're right next to us trying to help out so definitely still a part of the team and a big part of the team," said Maureen Boyle.
"I've never really had the chance to step back and really learn the game and dissect it and I think it's going to be really beneficial not only for me as a player but as a teammate to be able to have that knowledge and tell people what i see," said Taelyr Krantz.
The Saints do return two All-Conference selections in 2017 Setter of the Year Reyna Pilgeram and fellow senior Brielle Bumgarner. Their bid for conference three-peat ended in last year's conference tournament semifinals and the Frontier selected Carroll 3rd in the preseason poll with one first-place vote.
"The tough schedule that we have this year and the number of matches that we're going to be playing this year is going to give us the opportunity to prove to people that we're better than that," said Maureen Boyle.
"I think we just have to take it one game at a time really, just focus on our first preseason games and tournaments, and making sure that we go together as a team," said senior setter Reyna Pilgeram.
"I love this team so much and I love the game and I love this opportunity to be able to play for my God and I know that he's given me this opportunity so most of all I love to play for Him," said senior middle hitter Brielle Bumgarner.
The Saints play their first five matches on the road including an exhibition against the Montana State Bobcats before their home opener in the PE center on Wednesday, August 22nd against The Evergreen State College.
