OLYMPIA, Wash. - Five Western Washington children have been hospitalized with a possible nervous system illness. The Washington State Department of Health is working with Centers for Disease Control experts to determine if the cases are acute flaccid myelitis (AFM). The children, who are all under the age of 6, all reportedly had symptoms of a respiratory illness in the week prior to developing symptoms of AFM.
