Tesla crashes in Montana, driver blames autopilot (Slideshow)

Highway Patrol confirms that a Tesla Model X crashed near Whitehall Saturday night. The driver blames Tesla’s Autopilot for the accident.

The driver’s friend said the two people in the car were unharmed, but the vehicle is completely totaled. Before the crash Autopilot was at 60 MPH and failed to detect a wooden stake on the road.

According to the site Electrek the SUV drove through a guardrail and off the road.

The driver couldn’t get a cell signal at the site his friend relayed.

Electrek added that Tesla doesn’t recommend using the Autosteer feature on a road without a center divider. Others in Tesla’s own forums have said using Autosteer without a center divider has caused problems for them as well and warn against it.
