BUTTE- Snow and Ice kept police and Montana Highway Patrol busy Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.
Butte-Silver Bow Undersheriff George Skuletich said there were multiple accidents and slideoffs on Homestake pass around 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.
A few semi-trucks also were stuck on the pass. The Highway Patrol briefly shut down the pass to move the trucks.
Chains were required to travel the pass Wednesday evening. The requirement has been lifted as of Thursday afternoon. Undersheriff Skuletich said there were no major injuries related to the crashes and slideoffs.
Butte police also received multiple calls of accidents in the city. Undersheriff Skuletich said this happens every year with the first major snowfall.
"If you're traveling highway speeds you have to be prepared to stop, there might be someone sliding off the road in front of you so be prepared," said Undersheriff Skuletich.
Additional snowfall is expected for the upcoming weekend, and Skuletich reminds drivers to be cautious.
"You have to give room to stop and they don't do that. They think a four-wheel drive vehicle is going to stop because it says four-wheel drive, and that’s not always the case," said Undersheriff Skuletich.
