FORT PECK - A man is charged with animal cruelty in relation to the discovery of 15 dead horses on tribal land in August.
Roosevelt County authorities charge Richard Dean Holen with one count of aggravated animal cruelty and five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Investigators say 15 horses, including mares and foals, were held in fields with no water source in the middle of summer. The foals died first.
The horses' owner told police that she'd asked Holen to take care of them.
The bodies were first discovered on August 24. Tribal Fish and Game said a non-tribal member reported the dead horses.
