Warm weather forces the cancellation of another Flathead winter event.
As you may remember, the Montana Pond Hockey Classic was recently canceled due to dangerous ice conditions and now the lack of snow means the cancellation of the Flathead Classic Sled Dog Races scheduled for this weekend.
Organizer Brett Svetlik tells us they need at least six inches of snow to run the event, but over the weekend realized it just wasn't there.
Cancellations aren't uncommon in the sport, but Svetlik says this is the first time this particular event had to be called off.
“Putting a race at the end of the season like this, you just have to take those chances sometimes and this year we lost so much snow and got so much warm weather that it just was unfortunate,” Svetlik said.
