Parking fees in Helena will go into effect Sep. 3rd

HELENA – In June the City of Helena rolled out an updated parking system to manage the parking in the Downtown Helena area. For a couple of months now the public and the parking division has had a chance to get familiar with the new parking technology.

The soft-rollout period for the new parking system is about to conclude and the City of Helena has announced the launch of a new parking mobile app called Passport Parking.

“What we liked most about this app is they have been in the industry the longest. There technology is what we feel is the best. Some surrounding cities also use it, so we thought that would also help,” says Dave Hewitt the Parking Manager for the City of Helena.

Users can download the free app from the App Store, Google Play, or manage online by clicking here.

According to the City of Helena, here are a few things to know if you are parking in the Downtown area:

  • The downtown core, which consists of Last Chance Gulch and Fuller Avenue, is $1 the first two hours and increases the third hour.

  • Lots and garages are $1 an hour all day.

  • Single spaced meters outside the downtown core, near the downtown parking boundary (such as Cruse and Park Avenue) are $.50 an hour.

  • Free parking is still available downtown! The following lots are first hour free, Lot 8, Lot 4, and Lot 10. The following garages are first hour free, 6th Avenue Garage and Getchell Garage (Great Norther Town Center). More one-hour free parking and 15-minute quick stops are sprinkled downtown in areas, such as the Walking Mall and Broadway. Weekends and hours after enforcement are free.

  • Free parking in lots or on-street require entry of the license plate number in the app or kiosk so that enforcement can determine if the individual is parked legally or not.

  • Enforcement hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • Enforcement will begin on Tuesday, September 3rd

The City of Helena will continue to work with downtown business owners on the implementation of the parking system and will give feedback regarding the functionality and operations.
