MSUN's Edwards Stuffing Stats for Skylights

It's difficult for teams to match-up with MSU-Northern because the Skylights have A'Jha Edwards patrolling the paint.

The 6'5" Arizona native anchors the top-ranked defense in the country, making sure opponents are one and done on the offensive end.

"She's the number one defense rebounder in the country," says head coach Chris Mouat. "She gets the basketballs that other can't. She limits a lot of possessions. And that's so huge to have one-shot possessions. I think our kids have a lot of confidence in her. I sure do. She changed the game for us for sure."

A'Jha has taken her own game to a completely different level this year. She leads the nation in rebounds per game and is second in the country in field goal percentage. Last year she recorded 14 double-doubles, and this year she's at 13 and counting. That dominance is a reason Edwards has earned national player of the week twice this year.

"I was kind of shocked actually," says the Skylights Senior. "I didn't think that I would have gotten it twice. It means a lot because it means that I can go farther than I want to. "

Part of her success comes from the work she did in the off-season, expanding her game and adding new tools to her arsenal.

"The middle jumper, shooting 3s," says Edwards. "I've been working on my shot a lot as well. I think just improving that aspect instead of just having to be on the post a lot because a lot of teams do not expect it."

What really matters to Edwards is how far she can take her team. Last year the Skylights reached the sweet 16 and A'Jha is hoping to help lead the team all the way to the title this season.

"It's her senior season. You can tell she wants it," says Senior Guard and former Belt Husky Taylor Cummings. "She just has a lot of drive this year. I think that just what we have as a team and what we can accomplish, she's just really working hard to help the team and get to our goals."

If A'Jha continues to play the way she has, you have to think the Skylights have a chance to accomplish most, if not all the goals on their list.
