KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) - Almost a day of searching led to the recovery of a helicopter that sank in a lake while the pilot was getting water to douse a fire on private property.
The Flathead Beacon reports (http://bit.ly/1OVnBJP) a crane pulled the aircraft from Beaver Lake in northwestern Montana. Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry says it was located Wednesday afternoon in one piece under about 60 feet of water.
Curry said a minimal amount of fuel leaked into the lake and that any potential environmental damage was contained.
Former Flathead County undersheriff Jordan White is the executive director of Two Bear Air who was piloting the helicopter. He was unhurt in the crash, which is currently under investigation.
