body found in butte

BUTTE – Investigators are working to determine a cause of death for a man found dead lying under a tree outside a housing complex.

Undersheriff George Skuletich says on Monday, Sept. 16 around 8 PM, police found the man’s body lying under a tree on the south side of Silver Bow Homes.

Skuletich says the 51-year-old man was seen walking near the intersection of East Platinum and Arizona Streets and fell face-first on the sidewalk, and then crossed the street and fell again under the tree where he was found dead.

There were no apparent signs of foul play, and the coroner is sending his body to the crime lab in Missoula for an autopsy and toxicology report. The results are expected by the end of this week.

The man’s name will be released pending notification of his family.

Story updated Sept. 17 with additional information from the sheriff's office.
