Arlee parents outraged after gun incident at school

Posted: Updated:

Arlee School District held a public meeting on Wednesday after parents expressed outrage about not being alerted about a gun incident.

Dozens of parents gathered at the Arlee High School gym Wednesday night to learn more about the incident.

However, at the beginning of the meeting school administrators said parents could only comment to the board, and not ask questions.

It was a heated exchange between school administrators and parents, with law enforcement having to step in several times to calm parents down.

Ricky Fisher, the mother of a freshman at Arlee high school, expressed her fears to school administrators.

"I'm begging you as a mother, don't let me send my kids to school and say bye for the last time. Please," Fisher said holding back tears.

Another parent said his daughter told him she didn't want to go to school and her could see in her face "she was scared to go to school."

More than 20 parents commented to school administrators for over an hour sharing their fears and outrage.

School administrators did not say whether they will change any school policies.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office says they cited the student who brought the gun to school, and spoke with his parents.

This is a developing story, we will update you on any plans the school district has following Wednesday's meeting.
