Missoula voter turnout is heading towards record numbers

Posted: Updated:

In Missoula, voter turnout for this election is heading toward record numbers.

There's been a consistent line outside the Missoula County Election Office Tuesday, which is set up at the Missoula County Fairgrounds.
Missoula County's Election Administrator said many factors are driving Montanans to the polls for this election.

Elections Administrator, Dayna Causby, said there are a lot of money has been spent on this midterm election, which has resulted in increased attention, both in Montana and across the nation.

Causby said this attention is getting people to the polls.

More than 70 percent of Missoula County residents vote by mail and Causby said they've received nearly 70 percent of those ballots at the elections office.

She added this is an extremely high return rate for a midterm election, and local voters have noticed the change as well.

"This is actually the first time I’ve ever voted. I've never signed up to vote before. And so a bunch of people have been telling me at work and everywhere it's really important to get out and vote," said Joe Trevelline.

"Judging just by the turnout because if you see out here we have so many cars just coming back and forth, like finding parking was pretty hard today. But I honestly think it’s a major change and I think a lot of people want their voice heard, that's why they showed up today," said voter, Loren Hart.

Missoula County Officials said that they are pleased by this year's voter turnout, but this election is not over yet.

If you haven't voted, you have until 8 P.M. tonight to cast your vote and it's important to remind neighbors, family, and friends to vote too.
