Butte police arrest 11-year-old for alleged stabbing

BUTTE- An 11-year-old boy believed to be suffering from severe mental health issues was arrested for stabbing a relative.

Around 11 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, Butte police arrived at a residence in the 2900 block of Moulton Street in response to a call of a male that was stabbed.  

According to Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich, an 11-year-old Butte boy stabbed a male relative in the upper back with a kitchen knife for an unknown reason. Undersheriff Skuletich said the boy is believed to suffer from mental health issues.

The injured male was taken to St. James Healthcare with minor injuries and was released.

After the incident, the boy took off running scared, Skuletich said.

Police found the boy a few blocks away. The boy was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon and transported to Great Falls Juvenile Detention Center.

Undersheriff Skuletich said they hope to get the boy the help he needs.

Butte police have assigned a detective to the case.
