22-year-old Butte man arrested for DUI, punching cop

BUTTE- On Halloween night, police arrested a 22-year-old Butte man for allegedly driving under the influence and punching an officer in the face.

At about 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Butte police received a call of an erratic driver on Harrison Ave, said Butte Undersheriff George Skuletich.

A 911 caller said someone was erratically driving a white company truck and almost hit several vehicles. The caller followed the vehicle, allegedly driven by Bryan Armstrong, to the 400 block of South Excelsior Ave, where Armstrong parked the vehicle and went inside the residence.

Officers arrived on scene and asked Armstrong if he was the one driving the truck, which he denied. Armstrong was asked to come out of the house and take a field sobriety test. He then reportedly argued with one of the officers and tried to go back inside the house.

Undersheriff Skuletich says Armstrong began to wrestle with the officer and hit the officer in the face with a closed fist. A second officer arrived to assist.

The work truck was returned to its owner and Armstrong was given a field sobriety test at the detention center.

Armstrong faces a felony charge of assaulting a peace officer, DUI and several other charges. The officer who was struck did not receive any injuries, Skuletich says.
