Third-party absentee mailers confuse Montana voters

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Some Montana residents are concerned this week over absentee-voter mailers sent out by a third party.

Election officials say voters should know if they received one of these mailers, it does not mean they've been removed from the absentee voter list.

Officials said third party groups have the ability to request voter information from the secretary of state.

Dayna Causby, elections administrator for Missoula County, said there was some confusion with third party mailers this year, because they said resident's absentee status may be affected or in danger.

"What we're recommending to voters is either to call our office, here at the fairgrounds, at the elections center, or go online to myvoterpagemt.com and check their status," Causby says. "If it says 'absentee ballot status' on that page, they have an absentee ballot coming to them."

Absentee ballots will go out on October 12, and should be in mail boxes by October 15.

Regular registration is now closed, but you can still register to vote at the fairgrounds elections center up through Election Day on November 6.
