MISSOULA -

As one of the most intense hurricanes in decades hits the Florida coast, a recent Missoula transplant is worrying about his family.

Grant Everett has lived in Florida for more than 20 years, and moved to Missoula in May. Everett said his sister lives where Florida officials said will be hardest hit by Hurricane Michael.

"She's currently living in Panama City. She's married and has a couple kids there and she and her whole family went to Jacksonville where my other sister lives," Everett said.

Everett said his parents, five siblings and their children still live in Florida. He said all of them are safe now, but they will see impacts of Michael. Everett's parents live more than 150 miles away from the eye of the storm, and had trees knocked over in their yard and debris everywhere.

Everett works in the forest industry and has helped with hurricane relief efforts when he lived there. Now more than 2,300 miles away, his only wish is to be back home.

"I wish I was still there to help. You know the storm that came through a couple years ago, we were working nonstop and I wish I was there to assist and give my hand to help out where I can with the clean up," Everett said.

You can donate towards the relief efforts on the American Red Cross website
