Gallatin County -

Crews continue their attacks against the destructive Horseshoe Fire burning in Clarkston in Southwest Montana.

The fire is estimated at 2,000 acres and is zero percent contained.

The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s (DNRC) County Assist Team took over management of the fire Wednesday. Crews are focused on containment and structure protection.

The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday, structures were burned in the fire, but there is still no indication of how many structures and whether any of them were homes. Residents in the area believe at least one home was destroyed in the fire that started Monday.

"We know there are at least seven that have completely lost their homes and everything in them," said Pole Gulch resident Terry Malloy.

Wednesday, residents were going back and forth offering help and looking for missing horses, cows and other animals.

"There's goats and cats and dogs that still haven't been found yet," said Pole Gulch resident Cass Malloy.

A public meeting for the fire is set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Clarkston Fire Hall.
