In Missoula, people are lining up to get inked in an effort to raise awareness about suicide and mental health in Montana.
American Made has been a busy place today for people to get semi-colon tattoos for suicide awareness. All of the proceeds from the semi colon tattoos will go towards the Missoula Life Maintenance Center. It's an organization that helps serve people living with behavior heath issues in Missoula and surrounding areas.
It's all part of the nationwide Suicide Prevention Week.
The semi-colon symbolizes that a person's story will continue and for many getting the tattoo Wednesday.
The issue of suicide and mental health has impacted them directly, making it an emotional day for most.
The goal Wednesday is to raise about $6,000 for Missoula Life Maintenance. People can get the semi-colon tattoo for $20 but a $50 donation is recommended.
In addition to raising money, the goal is for those impacted by suicide and mental health issues to feel empowered and to share their stories and help others.
"The reason I got it is to remind myself that I am supposed to be here. And to keep on going no matter what. And for other people they know that I have either been through it or know someone who has been through it and it's ok to ask me questions if you need to talk," said customer, Kimberly Anderson.
Kimberly's story is just one of many shared on Wednesday.
A lot of people in Missoula are joining this movement. This event will be going on at American Made Tattoo in Missoula until 8 P.M. Wednesday night.
