Annual Sunday Streets celebrates sustainable transportation

MISSOULA -

Hundreds enjoyed a car-free downtown Missoula for the annual Sunday Streets Missoula, which kicks off Walk and Roll week in Missoula.

rganized by Missoula in Motion, a sector of the city's transportation division, Sunday Streets is annual event that encourages sustainable transportation by closing off street to cars and opening it up for people to enjoy healthy activities like biking and walking.

Event organizers say the idea is to give people a stress-free and safe environment to try biking or walking for transportation. By doing so, Missoula in Motion hopes it will help people gain confidence to start incorporating sustainable transportation into their daily routines.

More than 50 organizations set up shop downtown from Higgins Avenue to Fifth street to spread word about their work and offer free activities for all ages and abilities from noon-4 p.m.

Sunday Streets is the kick-off for Missoula's week-long event Walk and Roll, which encourages Missoulians to walk, bike or bus to work. If you bike, bus or walk to work, you can register with Missoula In Motion, track your commute and receive coupons and discounts at several local businesses, from Good Food Store to Black Coffee Roasting Co. Just head to this link and click "register."
