Elevate Church donates lifesaving devices to Missoula Sheriff's Department

MISSOULA -

Sunday services at Elevate Church included a special 9/11 ceremony honoring local first responders  - and it came with a hefty "thank you" gift too. Over the last two months, Elevate raised $1000 to give to the Missoula County Sheriff's Office.

"It was really cool how our church just jumped on board, and we were able to help them with their needs that their budget doesn't always meet," Elevate Pastor Randy Rathert said.

The money will help the Sheriffs department buy tourniquets. The compressing devices use a tight strap or cord to help slow down the flow of blood, and are vital for preventing further blood loss during a traumatic injury. The tourniquets help save lives in the area, like in the August crash when deputies used a tourniquet to save a woman whose arm was nearly severed.

Rathert emphasized how much his church cares about the community, and how they believe a community can accomplish big things.

He says it wasn't just about raising money, it was about making sure first responders in the area know they're supported.
