HAMILTON - A Ravalli County inmate is accused of carrying a homemade weapon and making threatening comments.

Ravalli County detention staff say they received a tip that inmate Alberto Palomarez Garza was carrying a broken piece of eyeglasses that he'd sharpened into a point. Garza reportedly told someone "maybe they want me to kill someone so I can get out."

A subsequent search of Garza's cell found the shank hidden under his mattress, according to court records.

He's charged with one felony count of possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner.

The 55-year-old was already jailed on a $250,000 bond for a charge of sexual intercourse without consent, according to court records.

A judge added $10,000 to his bond for the weapon charge.
