Billings police officer saves mother and two young children from burning home

Posted: Updated:

A Billings police officer is being commended today after saving a mother and her two children from a burning home.

According to Billings Police, Sgt. Scott Conrad, a 21-year-veteran of the police force, responded to the call from dispatch of a structure fire.

Sgt. Conrad saw smoke coming from the home and heard yelling from the back bathroom window. Sgt. Conrad tried going in through the backyard, but a rottweiler prevented him from doing so.

BPD says Sgt. Conrad kicked in the front door to get into the home. The woman ran out of the front carrying a baby. Sgt. Conrad saw a 2-year-old by the bathroom and tried yelling for the child to run to him, but the child didn't respond. Sgt. Conrad then entered the home to grab the child to bring him to safety.

Sgt. Conrad was able to get everyone safely out of the home. The fire caused about $200,000 in damages.
