The Great Falls Park and Rec Department received a grant to build two new playgrounds at Gibson Park for a total of $80,000 dollars.
A brand new toddler playground, as well as a play structure for ages 5-12, will be completed near the end of August to the beginning of September.
One important piece of information is that the two playgrounds will be switching places.
Where the old toddler play structure once stood will now be the 5-12 age playground and vice versa.
One of the two playgrounds will remain open for use while the other is under construction.
At the moment, the toddler structure is gone and the new 5-12 age playground should be complete in 2 weeks.
Following this, the current 5-12 play structure will be torn down and the new toddler play structure will be set up.
The reason for all the new construction simply boils down to wear-and-tear.
According to Lonnie Dalke, Great Falls Park Manager, the current play structures at Gibson Park have been in place for 20+ years now.
In order to stay up to date with current codes and safety, replacements need to be made.
