Reconstruction of historic Sperry Chalet begins

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK -

Reconstruction of the historic Sperry Chalet has begun in Glacier National Park.

Park Superintendent Jeff Mow and his team welcomed the construction crew on Monday.

The century-old dormitory was badly burned in the Sprague Fire last August.

Earlier this year, the National Park Service awarded the phase-one construction contract to Dick Anderson Construction of Great Falls.

This summer's work will include stabilizing and leveling the interior structure and building walls, with the ultimate goal of supporting a roof.

A helicopter and mule train will help deliver construction materials.

While this is happening, some trails in the area may be closed.

Visitors who wish to monitor trail status around the chalet should consult the Glacier National Park Trail Status Webpage and Area Closures
