Missoulians impacted by flooding find comfort in public meetings

MISSOULA -

Residents in Missoula impacted by the flooding of the Clark Fork River met at Hawthorne School Wednesday night to get the latest information from emergency officials.

Emergency officials talked with residents about flood potential and the impact the weather forecast plays.

Missoula resident Edie McLean has attended several of these public meetings and said it helps ease her mind during these tough times. McLean lives off on Juneau Drive in Missoula, not far from the Clark Fork.

She is one of the many Missoulians scrambling to protect property from rising floodwater.

"My yard, it is pretty full of standing water, and my crawl space is flooded,” McLean said.

Despite the chaos and damage, she said she's trying to stay optimistic.

"I feel like taking a trip or being in a coma till it's all over," she said. "But I feel like everyone is doing great work and trying to do what they can."

As hopeful as she is about a nearby levy holding up, she still needs to know about what's ahead. That's why she hasn't missed a single flood information meeting.

She added while the information may be overwhelming, it's helpful.

"I think there are a lot of emotions and it's hard I know and understand people have a lot of emotions," McLean said. "I see that there are hundreds of other people in the same situation. If anything that's the most helpful part."

For the time being, she has been prepping her home for future threats and offering a helping hand to her neighbors.
