5,000 sandbags delivered to Seeley Lake Wednesday

SEELEY LAKE - Flooding is continuing to impact a community where the lake started to spill over its banks earlier this week.

Many homes, summer cabins and roads in the area are soaked in deep water. Some of the worst flooding is on C Street, where yards and the road are completely covered.

The river and lake started to spill over on Sunday. While many of the cabins are mostly used as summer vacation homes, residents say it's still devastating.

One resident said this is the worst flooding he's seen in 30 years.

Now, agencies are stepping up to help.

"It's great to see everyone pulling together to help remedy a problem, a situation out of our control," says Joe Miller, a supervisor with Missoula County Public Works.

The public works department delivered 5,000 sandbags to a local fire station on Wednesday alone.

"I think we have about 5 or 6 pallet loads so far," Miller said.

While they have plenty of supplies to distribute now, they know this could be only the beginning of a long spring runoff season.

Miller says residents can pick up sandbags at the satellite county office in Seeley Lake or the fire hall.

Sand is also available for purchase at the One Stop.
