Missoula street flooded in wake of flood warning

Posted: Updated:

Several feet of water has flooded Kehrwald Drive in the Orchard Homes area in Missoula as the National Weather Service issued a flood warning.

The Clark Fork River is expected to crest Monday morning, but residents in the Tower Street and Kehrwald Drive neighborhood in Missoula are already seeing the effects.

Our reporter on scene says there is at least feet of flooding on Kehrwald Drive and additional flooding at the adjacent Tower Street Conservation Area.

Residents in the area are trying to protect their homes with sandbags. Some residents are moving belonging from their basements and other parts of their home that may be flooded.

"I guess neighbors were knocking on doors about 3am and said you better get your car out of here, I have a low SUV. so I feel safe having a big four wheel drive," said Kehrwald Drive resident Judy Pryor.

Judy an her husband Doug Pryor have been through the flooding before, it hit their neighborhood hard in 2011. Like many residents, they're doing they best they can.

"We kind of took care of stuff in the office, put it up and got a lot of stuff into the house," said Pryor. "The house sits up higher than the office and the greenhouse so I guess it is what it is."

Just down the road neighbor Ron Marks has been keeping a close eye on the Clark Fork too.

"We watched the river come up every day. I have been going down taking photos of it," said Marks.

Sunday he really had something to take photos of.

"It is a natural process that occurs most every year, this is just extreme," Marks said.

The river is still several feet away from his property and he hopes it stays that way but that will be up to Mother Nature. The flood warning is in effect until Tuesday morning. Additional rain is expected in the Missoula area through Tuesday.
