Suspicious pressure cooker shuts down Higgins

Posted: Updated:

Higgins Avenue was temporarily shut down Friday night, after police received a call about a suspicious item near a bank.

Missoula Police Sgt. James Caton said officers received a call just after 7 p.m., about a pressure cooker left near the bank. Sgt. Caton said officers closed down the road as a precaution, while the Missoula County bomb team x-rayed the pressure cooker.

The bomb team found no threat and Sgt. Caton said officers reopened Higgins just before 10 p.m.

As the bomb team was investigating the pressure cooker, Sgt. Caton said a man approached officers and said the pressure cooker was his. Police ran a search on the man, finding multiple outstanding warrants.

Sgt. Caton said the man was taken into custody, and there is no longer a threat to the public.
