Missoula fugitive allegedly hid in women's homes before arrest

Posted: Updated:

MISSOULA - Two different women discovered a wanted fugitive attempting to hide in their homes on the afternoon of April 18.

David Alan Moorse was the subject of an hours-long manhunt on that day after evading arrest for a warrant.

Court documents newly released on April 27 detail the manhunt.

Police say that Moorse hit another vehicle while fleeing arrest around 9 AM on that Wednesday. The two victims in that crash reported damage to their car and minor injuries.

After Moorse evaded police and ditched his own car, he allegedly snuck into houses near Southgate Mall while trying to hide.

Police lost track of Moorse for several hours at a time.

By 2:43 PM, a woman called police to say that she came home and found Moorse sitting on her couch. She says he got up and fled when she told him she was caling 911. He had also shaved part of his beard into her toilet and left some clothes at her house.

Hours later, another woman was at home entertaining friends around 8:30 PM, when she heard a noise from the front door. She found Moorse hiding in a closet.

She says she yelled at Moorse to "get out" and called 911.

A few minutes later, police found Moorse riding a bicycle on Mary Avenue. Officers say he still refused to stop, and led them on a brief bicycle chase before they finally arrested him near Union Square Apartments.

Moorse was arrested with marijuana and a pipe on his person. Officers also found a backpack in his car with 3.6 grams of methamphetamine.

He is charged with felonies including criminal endangerment, dangerous drug possession, burglary and escape, as well as multiple misdemeanors including failure to stop at an accident scene, reckless driving, possession of less than 60 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
