Saving money on heat during the winter months

Posted: Updated:

If you're seeing your electric bill get higher and higher, you’re not alone. During these cold winter months in Montana, It can be tough to keep your heat bill down. But, there are several things you can do to try and save money during winter. It's not always easy, but it can be done.

Add weather stripping to your doors. If you can slip a sheet of paper under your door frame or between the frame and the door itself, then the gap is too wide and you are losing warm air to the outside elements, so you may want to add insulating weather strips. They're easy to find at hardware stores.

Insulate your attic. It's one of the biggest places where homes lose heat. You can save on your electric bill and fix the problem by installing an attic tent that securely fits over the hatch.

Heating water is also a large percentage of your energy bill.

Switching from washing your clothes in hot water to cold or cool water can save you over 40 cents per load. Hopefully these small changes will help keep you warm and save you money in the process.
