SPOKANE, Wash. -

SCRAPS says they are investigating a string of horrific cat mutilations in North Spokane and the hunt to find the person responsible is in full swing.

Four cat halves have been found so far, two front ends and two back ends. Three were found in North Spokane near Francis and Ash and one near Northwest Boulevard.

"It's just kind of shocking and unexpected," said Wendy Harvey. Harvey says just this past Sunday, her husband stumbled across a mound in their backyard that somebody had made. They found a cat buried and its foot sticking out.

A SCRAPS officer came and found that the cat had been cut in half. Harvey's case isn't the only one. There's a total of four cases being investigated so far. A vet says some of the cats were missing organs, muscles, and bones.

Just four minutes away from Harvey, there was another grim discovery. Jeremy Wendle says he watched KHQ's Wake Up Show Thursday morning and thought what he found a month ago could be connected with these four cases. "Right over there in front of the tree, there was a dead cat," he said.

Wendle was mowing a customer's yard and didn't think anything of it at the time. "It didn't have a head or any of its intestines which seemed pretty disturbing," said Wendle.

Its left neighbors feeling uneasy and violated. "Somebody did that to an animal. Somebody was behind our house," said Harvey.

So far no owners of these cats are known.

SCRAPS is continuing to investigate and if you know anything about who is doing this or know of any other cases, you need to call and report to them by calling: (509) 477-2532.

SCRAPS says this is an animal cruelty case and could result in up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

A Pennsylvania judge is scheduled to hold a hearing Monday to determine whether rapper Meek Mill should get a new trial in his decade-old gun and drug convictions.    Mill's attorneys have asked for a new trial based on credibility issues with an officer who testified at his trial. At least three convictions of other defendants based on that officer's testimony have been thrown out this year.
