Teens need to be getting at least 8-10 hours of sleep a night

Posted: Updated:

Sleep is an important part of life, but are teenagers getting enough of it? Because teens are getting lack of sleep, adjusting school start times has been proposed as a way for students to get more sleep.

Teens need to be getting about 8 to 10 hours a sleep each night to function at their best.

The National Sleep Foundation says that teens tend to have irregular sleep patterns across the week. They stay up late and sleep in late on the weekends which can actually hurt a teen’s quality of sleep.

Parents, here is what you can do to help:

  1. Make sure their bedroom is a quiet place.
  2. Have them take a hot shower or bath before bed then keep the room cool at around 68 degrees to allow the body to cool.
  3. And, if light bothers your teen then install blackout curtains.
