Bozeman School District is prepared for increase of students

Posted: Updated:

The new school in Bozeman school is still a couple of years from being built. So how exactly is the city dealing with the growing population? Deputy Superintendent Steve Johnson says they are prepared for the increase of students why they wait for the new school to be built.

He says the hardest part is maintaining, because no class can surpass the state standard size.

Johnson says that using the building becomes a challenge because, if every classroom is used every period with no set classrooms, where do students find teachers? Even with the increase of students, which will be 80 kids this school year, Johnson feels the timing for this new school couldn't be better.

"You know we are anticipating that 2400 number which is kind of the tipping point in 2020 we are very fortunate that the taxpayers approved the bond issue when they did, because if we would of had to delay it a year or two then we would have had some real issues to deal with and would of had to come up with some other alternative," said Johnson.

Those alternatives would have been portable classrooms or even split shifts where you have half your students come in at a certain part of the day. Ultimately the school was able to avoid those issues.
