The average back to school shopper will spend close to 700 dollars

Today marks the second day of August, which means, school is right around the corner. As stores begin to stuff their shelves with school supplies we here at Wake up Montana have prepared a few tips for you on how to save money during this time of the year.

Did you know that the average back to school shopper is going to spend 688 dollars this year on school supplies? Here are some ideas on how to keep that price down.

  1. First foremost, do a closet and supply sweep. You might not realize it, but you probably have a lot of school supplies just lying around your home. Check closets, desk drawers, and other places that you might store items.
  2. Once you have done the supply sweep gather what you have into a pile. Then you will know what you don’t have. Now it’s time to go shopping, but set a limit. Stay away from getting the hot new item. They may want special items to impress their friends like name brand clothing from the mall, but name brand will quickly destroy your back to school budget.
  3. Finally, buy in bulk. Keep checking prices and when you find a good deal somewhere buy enough to get your child through the full school year that way you don’t have to buy more. And, if they don’t use it, you can store it and save it for next year.
