Emergency responders contain Kalispell structure fire

KALISPELL -

Multiple agencies responded to a structure fire on Pioneer Dr., off of Highway 2 in Kalispell. While the building burned, dark plumes of smoke were visible from the highway.

Ben Covington, the commander on scene from Evergreen Fire says the mobile home is a total loss, but no people or animals were harmed. Rural fires like this can provide extra difficulties, he added, because water has to be flown in. There often aren't fire hydrants in these sorts of locations.

Covington tells us, "A lot of difficulties being out in this area, there's no water out here.  So, we've had to rely heavily on tenders and water tankers basically."

Crews contained the fire around 5:45 pm. It took about one and a half hours to fight it.

The cause is under investigation.
