Fish ladder highlights economical addition to Thompson Falls Dam

Posted: Updated:
THOMPSON FALLS -

The 1,016 feet of Thompson Falls Dam has been a mainstay for the Sanders County town since it's initial completion in 1915.

Back then, little was known about fish or wildlife preservation, especially when it comes to damming up a sizable Montana River.

But with bull trout now listed on the endangered species list, Thompson Falls' addition of a fish ladder has been making a difference over the past 8 years.

Built in 2009-2010, the innovative ladder helped control the flow of trout and other fish species to navigate safely and effectively through the dam.
