Not everyday kids get to meet hall of famers, especially here in NFL-less Montana.
"It’s not too many times you can talk about a little town in Montana getting two Hall of Fame guys and Mr. DeBartolo III, it’s pretty incredible" says Doug Betters.
Betters is a former Grizzly and Miami Dolphin football player, and created "For the Children" to help families who have to travel for their children’s medical treatments. He partnered with longtime Whitefish resident and former 49ers owner Eddie Debartolo to bring NFL Play 60 and some Niner legends to the Treasure State.
"You know what, they love doing this. I did not even have to get it out of my mouth. They love doing this. I mean just to be with kids and to intermingle and intertwine with them, it means a lot." says DeBartolo
Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, along with Dwight Clark and Roger Craig all traveled to Kalispell to support not only their former owner, but a fellow NFL alum in Betters.
"You know we wanted to come support him and Eddie Debartolo… you know Doug Betters, in the NFL, he was a big time player, and to just come here and support him, and hang out with the kids." Rice says with a huge smile on his face.
Betters could not speak highly enough of the men who came to Montana this weekend.
"A lot of times big time guys like that can be prima donas, but just the opposite. These guys could not be nicer, just really classy class guys."
