HELENA, Mont. (AP) - Montana officials rejected a plan to limit commercial fishing guides on the Madison River that flows out of Yellowstone National Park, a top fishing destination where the number of days spent angling has more than doubled in recent years. The Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission unanimously voted Thursday against the proposal after multiple guides, outfitters and other anglers spoke out against it.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A witness is recounting the dramatic rescue of a woman trapped on top vehicle surrounded by rushing floodwaters in northern Montana. Blake Wombold tells the Great Falls Tribune that he stopped on U.S. Highway 2 near Dunkirk on Tuesday night and saw a woman standing on a vehicle nearly submerged by the water. He says a man from the truck ahead of him stripped off his clothes and swam out to the woman.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - Missoula County is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a suspect for the March beating death of a 45-year-old woman. Susan Wood was found in the road unconscious with a serious head injury on March 3 and died on March 16 without regaining consciousness.

BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) - A man charged with raping an 8-year-old girl after DNA evidence linked him to the 1987 case wants the charge dismissed, arguing the statute of limitations had run out. Ronald Dwight Tipton argues a 2007 law that allows the prosecution of sexual assault cases within a year of a conclusive DNA match is unconstitutional. The state argues the law recognizes the power of DNA evidence.
