Flathead shelter searches for missing puppies

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

The clock is running out for a new litter of puppies that Flathead residents fear are trapped outside in the elements.

“It would be a Christmas miracle,” said Flathead County Animal Shelter Director Cliff Bennett on what it would take to find the boxer puppies safe and sound.

He says in spite of the slim chances of finding the puppies alive, they are still holding out some hope.

Animal control picked up a stray boxer earlier this week off the Old Steel Bridge road in Kalispell and it was clear she had given birth just a few weeks ago.

The officer thoroughly searched the area for the puppies to no avail.

Bennett says the dog looks like she has been well cared for and is confident someone knows who she is.

“She's lean like a recent mother would be but she's friendly and not fearful so she doesn't appear to have been abused or mistreated so it's just anybody's guess,” he said.

If she’s not claimed in the next few days, she will go up for adoption.
