A new year brings with it new hope, new expectations and a new mindset. The Hellgate Knights feel they have what it takes to improve upon last year and they're ready to get the season underway.
"We're really excited I feel like we have good energy on the team, really positive this year so it will be good," said Senior Paula Woerlein.
"It's been really exciting a lot of us are returning from last year so we can really build on our team this year and build on more tactics and strategies," said Junior Becca Jones.
The Knights return five seniors from last years squad. Couple that with five talented juniors and Hellgate Head Coach Christine Hiller-Claridge says having experienced players could be the difference.
"Coming off of last season we had a lot of talent in the program but our youngness kind of took it's toll on the team a bit. This year having that varsity court time from last year will help us for game situations," said Hellgate Head Coach Christine Hiller-Claridge.
"It's really reassuring to have a lot of girls who have been experienced before and everyone has the same mindset to want to have a winning season this year," said Hellgate Junior Mari Lundin.
The Knights feel they have the potential to make it to state this year and it's something they want to achieve badly, how bad?
"So badly, it's just a fun group of girls and we all understand each other," said Woerlein.
"As bad as anyone, we have the potential to go far this season so we are working as hard as ever to get better and improve," said Jones.
"We want to improve a ton because last year we did not have a winning season and prove to everyone that we can do it and make it to state," said Lundin.
The Knights open up their season Saturday in Bozeman against the Hawks.
