SWXRightNow.com -- The National Hockey League has had expansion on its mind for a while now and finally hopeful cities like Seattle have had their prayers answered with the news that the NHL will expand to Las Vegas, Toronto, Seattle and Quebec City by a target date of 2017, according to SportsBusinessNews' Howard Bloom via Twitter.

Seattle has been on the NHL radar for years now with reports coming from the New York Post and other entities that Wayne Gretzky was part of a trio of investors looking to bring a franchise to the Emerald City. The Great One's agent, Darren Blake, later denied these rumors of his client's role in helping the Pacific Northwest corner a new team, but it did continue the buzz around a future team.

In addition, news that Vegas would be getting it's first franchise from a "big four" sport with only the task of finding an owner left broke earlier on Tuesday. Quebec City has a brand-new arena set to open its doors in 2015 and Toronto would be getting its second franchise with the Maple Leafs being the NHL's highest grossing franchise at the moment.

As more news about this exciting development becomes available SWX will bring it to you!
