It's year three for the Sentinel Spartans under Head Coach Dane Oliver. Each season the Spartans have improved and last year made it to the playoffs with a 6-5 record, which gives them a little pep in their step this fall.
"We learned how to win. Last year really has no bearing on this year, we still have to put the work in and prepare and perform but it was a good experience. They've been there now and it was the motivation during the offseason that we want to go further," said Spartans Head Coach Dane Oliver.
"Yea it's a huge thing the success we had last year it got us more excited for this year and we have higher expectations and a different mentality heading into this year," said Senior Byron Rollins.
The Spartans say they were focused this offseason putting in work in the weight room, and now it changes as they get their minds right when out on the field.
"Oh yea it's totally different mindset being out on the field it's more preparation for game one not for the whole season type of thing, so now we are narrow minded and focused on one goal," said Senior Jeff Krstulich.
Coach Oliver said about fifty percent of his starters from last year are gone. The biggest position group hit was the Wide Receivers as all four started are gone, so we three a Go Pro on the receivers to see how they're doing this year.
"The wide receivers have taken a huge step, there's still a lot of timing that needs to take place between Kade and his receivers but I have been happy with the progress of everybody," said Oliver.
As for the Spartans strength they return much of their front seven on defense, they also return the quarterback but it's the foundation of winning that has them setting their goals high for this season.
"Obviously because of the success last year we are shooting for a state title this year that's our ultimate goal," said Rollins.
Begin with the end in mind. That's the phrase the Spartans are following this year as they start their journey for what they hope ends in a state title.
