KRMC Asks For Donations To Grow Emergency Department

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

Kalispell Regional Medical Center needs just $6 million more to start expanding its emergency department.

They've already raised more than $8 million.

The original emergency services building was finished in 1976. Kalispell, and the whole Flathead, has grown a lot since then and hospital officials say they have to keep pace.

Right now, they're working with 8,100 square feet. The expansion would leave them with 34,000 square feet and almost triple the number of exam rooms.

"This is the first time we've ever come to the community with a major campaign like this. Hopefully it will be the last one for a while. We wouldn't do it if we didn't need it," said Tagen Vine, the president of Kalispell Regional Healthcare Foundation.

They're hoping to finish fundraising this year. Once construction starts, it should take 18 months to finish.
