Walsh Makes First Appearance Since Withdrawal From Senate Race

MISSOULA -

As the Democratic Party gets ready to decide on a candidate in the race for senate, current Senator John Walsh makes his first appearance after announcing his withdrawal.

Walsh spent Monday morning in Missoula at a round table discussion about social security as part of a tour across the state. The tour comes after the senator sent his letter of withdrawal from the race for the senate seat last Thursday.

The New York Times published a report claiming he had plagiarized a large portion of his master's thesis from the Army War College. The senator admits to the claims.

“I've made mistakes in the past, I'll more than likely make mistakes in the future, so I've learned growing up in Butte, Montana that when you make a mistake or you get knocked down, you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and move on. I'm going to finish this term in the U.S. Senate very strong,” Senator Walsh said.

The Democratic Party must pick a replacement by August 20. State Representative Amanda Curtis, Wilsall rancher Dirk Adams and State Senator Dave Wanzenreid have expressed interest in the position. Delegates from across the state will gather in Helena on Saturday to choose a replacement candidate.
