Man arrested for driving car into Spokane River

SPOKANE, Wash. - Spokane police arrested one man for driving a car into the Spokane River while arguing with a woman in the car with him.

50-year-old Rex L. Pollock was booked into Spokane County Jail early Sunday. Before 6 a.m. Pollock called police and said his car that he had just driven into the river was stolen and crashed by someone else.

Officers say Pollock was driving recklessly and arguing with the unidentified woman when he drove off the road where Cincinnati comes to a dead end, just south of the Trent Bridge. The car crashed in about 5 feet of water 25 feet from shore.

Authorities  took the woman to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police booked Pollock into Spokane County Jail for reckless endangerment, domestic violence and providing false information to officers.

The Spokane County Sheriff's Office worked through the morning to recover the vehicle.

    McALLEN, Texas (AP) - An El Paso, Texas-based organization that assists immigrants says it's receiving about 30 parents who have been separated from their children after they were apprehended entering the country illegally and will work to reunite the families.
