What started out as an unexpected meeting with the legendary Paul McCartney, ended under the needle for Sharon and Laurel White, a mother-daughter duo of McCartney super fans who traveled all the way from San Francisco to Missoula to see their idol perform Tuesday night.

"My first concert was Wings over America, 1976," Sharon White said, "...and mine was Paul McCartney when I was 7," her daughter Laurel said.

"So we're just huge Beatles fans. And we also love road trips together. She's a college student and we love to spend time together. And so, when we saw Paul was playing in Missoula, we're both outdoors-y and so we wanted to come here and see Paul at the same time."

The Whites made signs asking for a signature that caught Sir Paul's eye and he pulled them up on stage to answer their request. With about 25,000 people watching, the White's instantly became local celebrities.

The Whites say they weren't going to let the signature of a rock and roll legend wash away in the shower or fade away with time.

"We were really hoping that this could happen and decided if it did we would get mother-daughter tattoos."

After guarding the signatures on their shoulders overnight, the Whites went to Blaque Owl Tattoo on Higgins as soon as it opened Wednesday morning to make Sir Paul's ink permanent.

"I never thought in my lifetime I would get a tattoo so this is pretty exciting," Sharon said.

The Beatles and Wings are a household name for the Whites, who travel around the country and even sometimes abroad to see Sir Paul play, more for the chance to do something together, but also of course for the music.

"The crowd was just great, Missoula is a really fun town, the people are great. We love it here!"

The Whites plan to see McCartney when he plays in Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 14.
