UPDATE:

BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) - Several hundred people turned out Friday night for a vigil to honor a 6-year-old Washington girl found murdered several days after she disappeared from her Bremerton-area home.

Authorities say an autopsy has confirmed that a body found in the woods near the mobile home park where Jenise Wright lived was that of the little girl who vanished last weekend. Her death has been ruled a homicide.

Kitsap County Sheriff Steve Boyer repeated a promise made earlier in the day when the little girl was formally identified. He said while Jenise is gone, "We can and we will find justice for her."

The Wright family's pastor, Chris Byron, attended the vigil. The Kitsap Sun reports that he says the little girl's mother, Denise Wright, wanted to thank the search and law enforcement personnel who have worked on the case.  The girl's father, James Wright, issued a statement through Byron, saying that he hopes "something positive can come from this tragedy."

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

SEATTLE (AP) - A four-day search for a missing 6-year-old Washington girl ended tragically Thursday, as authorities say they believe they have found the body of Jenise Wright.

Authorities in Kitsap County say it's a criminal investigation, and they're trying to narrow in on a suspect. They said there have been no arrests in the case, and no cause of death was given.

An FBI team using search dogs discovered the body in a forested area near the mobile home park where the girl lived about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. Her family has been notified.

Jenise was last seen when she went to bed Saturday night. Her parents waited a day before calling for help because they say the girl had wandered around the Steele Creek Mobile Home Park on her own in the past.

(AP) - The father of a missing 6-year-old Washington state girl was previously charged with molesting two girls, ages 8 and 15.Court records show James Wright later pleaded guilty in December 2001 to a misdemeanor assault charge related to the older girl. It was not clear why the molestation charges were dropped. Prosecutors did not immediately return a call Wednesday.

Kitsap County Sheriff's Deputy Scott Wilson said authorities are aware of the charges, which happened in another county. He says the parents have cooperated with the search for Jenise Wright.

Wright was last seen Saturday night at her home. Her family reported her missing Sunday night.

A listed number for James Wright could not be found. The defense attorney who represented him on the previous charges did not return a call.
