The Griz will have some big shoes to fill on the offensive line this year as they lost three players who are currently on NFL rosters. Kjelby Oiland is with the Texans, Danny Kistler is on the Raiders and William Poehls joins Marc Mariani in Tennessee.
"It's crazy when I'm doing football stuff and going to meetings and lifting and practicing that's just football, that's all it is. But every once in awhile I will take a step back and realize I am in the NFL now," said Tennessee Titan William Poehls.
"I've just be looking at every day and thanking God that I have the opportunity because every time you walk off the practice field whether you had a good one or a bad one you get to look up at the beautiful California sky and play at this high level and you can't ask for much more than that," said Oakland Raider Danny Kistler.
These guys are fighting as hard as they can to try and make an NFL roster, it's stressful but they say they're soaking it in.
“Most of it is enjoyable because it’s football it’s the sport I love. I tell people I would play for enough money to put food on the table for my family and that’s about it. I could play for pennies because I love it so much but there is stress there because you can get cut at any second,” said Poehls.
“Just get my mind at peace and get myself ready for camp. It’s going to be a grind and preseason games will be a great opportunity for me,” said Kistler.
As training camps get underway to say the next few weeks are important would be an understatement.
“I’m super excited for camp that’s when we put on the pads and I am interested to see how hard the NFL players hit. It’s exciting and nerve-wracking because that’s when stuff starts happening,” said Poehls.
There are currently nine Griz players in the NFL, if you count the three lineman and Jordan Tripp and Brock Coyle, it makes it an impressive 14 players from UM.
