Big Dipper Plans New Parlor In Billings

MISSOULA -

The Big Dipper plans a new parlor in Billings.

It's not hard to see why the Missoula's local ice creamery is growing, especially on a scorcher like Thursday.

I actually spoke with a night manager who gave me some advice.

Big Dipper night manager, Melissa Woodward, has worked at the Big Dipper for three years.

On a typical day, Woodward says between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and then again between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. are peak ice cream hours.

Apparently a lot of people need to hit that sweet spot after lunch and dinner.

"It's a really fun environment and it's cool that we like get to know our bosses. It's just a good overall environment to work in," said Woodward.

She says on any given shift, she probably serves up more than 150 scoops.

They're hoping the new Billings location will be open sometime in February 2015.

Thursday, some of the special flavors included chai, huckleberry pancake, and huckleberry sorbet. Broccolatte will be a special flavor on the menu Friday. It's named for the Missoula Symphony (i.e. Bach) and will be coffee ice cream with chocolate chips.
